Albuquerque, New Mexico – Thunderstorms are expected to develop across eastern New Mexico starting at 2 p.m. Thursday, bringing the potential for damaging winds and large hail, particularly along the I-25 corridor north of Las Vegas.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a Marginal Risk for severe weather is in place from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. MDT today, June 12. The most at-risk areas include the northeast highlands and eastern plains, especially near I-40 east of Clines Corners. While confidence remains moderate, isolated storms could turn severe quickly.

Residents in Clovis, Tucumcari, and Las Vegas should remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions, as storms are expected to move eastward through the late afternoon and evening. Friday brings a renewed storm threat from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. across the far eastern plains, particularly east of Tucumcari along I-40. Hazards include isolated large hail and gusts strong enough to down branches or power lines.

Drivers should avoid travel during storm hours when possible, secure outdoor items, and keep weather alerts enabled. This two-day storm pattern is driven by an eastward-moving system pulling moisture into the region, enhancing instability.

More alerts could be issued if conditions intensify.
