Omaha, NE – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for eastern Nebraska and western Iowa through midnight Saturday night, as a dangerous mix of snow, freezing rain, and strong winds sweeps across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, snow will intensify Friday evening and continue through Saturday, producing total snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches depending on location. Areas such as Omaha, Bellevue, Fremont, Council Bluffs, and Wayne could also see a light glaze of ice, compounding travel difficulties.

Forecasters warn of wind gusts up to 35 mph, which will cause blowing and drifting snow and significantly reduce visibility. The heaviest snowfall is expected Friday night through Saturday evening, making travel “very difficult or impossible” at times.

Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential delays and closures. Those who must drive should carry an emergency kit with blankets, food, water, and a flashlight. Road condition updates are available by dialing 511 in both Nebraska and Iowa.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through the weekend, keeping snowpack and icy roads in place into early Sunday.
