Nebraska – Mixed precipitation is expected to impact much of eastern Nebraska on Friday, prompting winter weather advisories that could create hazardous travel conditions throughout the day and into the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for large portions of east-central, northeast, and southeast Nebraska, with staggered start times depending on location.

For northeast and east-central Nebraska, including Knox, Cedar, Antelope, Pierce, Wayne, Boone, Madison, Stanton, Platte, Colfax, and Butler counties, the advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. CST Friday. In these areas, forecasters expect up to one inch of snow and sleet, along with ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch.

Farther south and east, including Douglas, Sarpy, Lancaster, Cass, Saunders, Washington, Dodge, Burt, Cuming, Thurston, Seward, and surrounding counties, the advisory runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. CST Friday. Cities such as Omaha, Lincoln, Bellevue, Papillion, Fremont, Blair, Plattsmouth, and Wahoo may see up to one inch of snow and a light glaze of ice.

Officials warn that slippery road conditions are likely, especially during the Friday evening commute, as temperatures hover near freezing and precipitation transitions between snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for changing road conditions. Travelers can check the latest Nebraska road conditions by calling 511 before heading out.

For commuters, students, and evening travelers, the advisories signal a heightened risk of travel delays and slick conditions across much of eastern Nebraska through late Friday night.
