OMAHA, NE – After a warm and breezy weekend, a sharp dose of fall is set to sweep across Nebraska late Sunday as a strong cold front barrels in from the northwest. Afternoon highs in the upper 80s will quickly give way to 15- to 20-degree cooler conditions by Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the front will arrive first in Niobrara around 3 p.m. Sunday, pushing southeast through Lincoln and Omaha by early evening. Winds will shift sharply out of the northwest, gusting over 25 mph as cooler air settles in.
By Monday, highs will range from the low 60s in Norfolk and Columbus to near 70 in Falls City and Clarinda. The quick temperature drop may also bring a brisk start to the workweek, with morning lows dipping into the 40s across much of eastern Nebraska.
Drivers should expect gusty crosswinds on I-80 and reduced visibility in open areas Sunday evening. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for a noticeable chill by sunrise Monday.
Cooler, dry air will dominate through midweek before milder temperatures return later in the week.
