Omaha, Nebraska – A powerful line of storms is set to sweep across eastern Nebraska, including Omaha, beginning late Tuesday afternoon and lasting through 3 a.m. Wednesday, bringing threats of damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, storms are expected to arrive after 5 p.m., with a 50-80% chance for much of the area. While only a 5-15% risk of reaching severe levels, these storms may still deliver wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to 1 inch in diameter, and locally heavy downpours—especially north and east of the metro.

Cities most at risk include Omaha, Lincoln, Fremont, Norfolk, and Blair. Travel may become hazardous on I-80, Highway 75, and other main roads as storms move through. Residents should secure outdoor objects, charge devices in case of power outages, and avoid travel during peak storm hours if possible. Flooding could develop in low-lying areas, particularly in northeast Nebraska.

This marks one of the more significant mid-July storms for eastern Nebraska, with severe risk expanded farther east compared to recent events. No tornadoes are expected with this system.

Storm threats will diminish after 3 a.m. Wednesday, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions change. Stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight.
