Omaha, NE – Drivers across the Omaha metro could face sharply reduced visibility Sunday afternoon as blowing snow and wind gusts up to 35–45 mph develop across eastern Nebraska.
Saturday remains mild with mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing to around 63°F across Douglas and Sarpy counties. Conditions stay quiet through the afternoon before a cold front begins moving into the region overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, both a Winter Storm Watch and High Wind Watch are in effect from Sunday morning through early Monday. Rain may briefly mix with snow early Sunday, but colder air will quickly change precipitation to all snow after about 3 p.m. Sunday.
Strong northwest winds increasing to 27–32 mph with gusts up to 55 mph could produce areas of blowing snow, especially along open stretches of Interstate 80, U.S. Highway 75, and Interstate 29. Snow accumulation around 1 inch is possible, though drifting snow may create hazardous travel.
Temperatures will drop rapidly Sunday evening with lows falling to around 7°F. Wind chills could plunge to -11°F, creating dangerous conditions for anyone outdoors overnight.
Blustery conditions continue Monday with sunshine returning but highs only reaching around 26°F. Warmer weather returns later in the week, with temperatures climbing back toward 70°F by Wednesday across eastern Nebraska.
