Omaha, NE – Rivers and creeks in northeast Nebraska remain swollen tonight after heavy rainfall, with minor flooding possible through Tuesday morning. That’s just the start of a volatile weather week that includes near-daily storm chances and oppressive heat building toward the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, storm chances will persist each evening through Saturday, peaking Friday night as a front pushes through the region. While daily rain chances stay low (10–30%), severe weather and locally heavy rainfall are possible. This could further raise flood risks in already saturated areas from Monona County, IA to Stanton County, NE.

Carter Lake to Council Bluffs: Isolated storms may develop after 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with higher chances returning Friday and Saturday.
Lincoln to Fremont: Afternoon highs will climb steadily, reaching the low 90s by Thursday and mid 90s Friday, with heat index values topping 100°.
Siouxland and Northern Counties: Flood watches are not currently active but may be issued if storm totals trend higher by midweek.

By Friday, the combination of heat, humidity, and evening storms may stress power systems and elevate risks for those without reliable cooling. Residents are urged to monitor stream levels, stay weather-aware during the evening hours, and limit outdoor activity during peak heat Thursday and Friday.

Storm and heat alerts may be updated midweek depending on rainfall coverage and incoming frontal timing.
