Omaha, Nebraska – Strong wind gusts up to 45 mph are already impacting eastern Nebraska and western Iowa this morning, creating difficult driving conditions along major corridors within the next few hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, gusty winds will continue through Wednesday morning, with speeds between 35 and 45 mph. These winds may impact travel along I-80 and surrounding highways, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Storm chances begin to develop later today, primarily along and south of I-80, with a 20 to 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms by late afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the mid-60s to mid-70s, adding instability to the atmosphere.

The more active period arrives Thursday, when storm chances increase to 50 to 90 percent across the region. A few storms could become strong, though the overall severe risk remains low. Cities including Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs should prepare for periods of rain and thunder through the day.

Additional storm chances continue Friday and increase again Saturday, when coverage could reach 60 to 80 percent. This unsettled pattern may persist into early next week.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items today due to strong winds and stay alert for changing conditions as multiple rounds of storms move through the region.
