Omaha, NE – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for portions of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa, taking effect from noon to 8 p.m. CDT on Monday due to strong winds and critically low humidity levels.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the affected areas include multiple counties in Nebraska—Boone, Platte, Colfax, Dodge, Washington, Butler, Saunders, Douglas, Sarpy, Seward, Lancaster, Cass, Otoe, Saline, Jefferson, Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, and Richardson—as well as Iowa’s Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, and Page Counties.
Wind speeds are expected to range from 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Relative humidity could drop as low as 14 percent, creating dangerous fire conditions.
Officials warn that any fires that develop could spread rapidly, making outdoor burning highly discouraged. Residents are urged to take precautions by securing outdoor materials and avoiding activities that could ignite fires.
The warning replaces the previously issued Fire Weather Watch. Authorities advise the public to stay updated on changing conditions and adhere to local fire restrictions.
A Red Flag Warning indicates that weather conditions are highly conducive to fire ignition and spread, and residents should remain vigilant throughout the day.
