Omaha, NE – A severe weather system is expected to develop across Nebraska Tuesday evening, bringing strong thunderstorms, large hail, and damaging winds across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley office, storms will begin to form late Tuesday, March 31, with a 90% chance of widespread thunderstorm activity. These storms may produce wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and hail over one inch in diameter. The threat will extend overnight into early Wednesday, April 1, with a 5% to 20% chance of severe weather persisting through the early morning hours.

The greatest risk stretches from Grand Island through Lincoln, Omaha, and northeastward into Sioux City, IA. Areas under Level 2 “Slight Risk” may experience more concentrated severe conditions, including isolated tornado potential.

Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware, especially during the evening and overnight hours. The NWS advises having multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA radios and emergency alerts on mobile devices. Travel may be impacted by downed trees or power lines, particularly in southeast and central Nebraska.

Outdoor plans should be adjusted or postponed. Storm intensity is expected to diminish by mid-morning Wednesday as the system exits the region.
