Hastings, Neb. – Severe thunderstorms could impact much of Nebraska from late Sunday into Monday evening, with large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes possible across central and eastern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, storms are expected to develop Sunday afternoon and intensify into the overnight hours. A slight risk has been issued statewide, with enhanced risk across south-central and southeastern Nebraska, including Concordia, Smith Center, and Superior. The threat continues Monday, especially east of a line from Kearney to Beatrice, where a 30% chance of severe weather is forecast.

The exact timing and severity of Monday’s storms depend on how Sunday night’s system evolves. Residents in Lincoln, York, and Hastings should remain alert as severe conditions may redevelop by Monday afternoon.

Power outages, fallen limbs, and hazardous travel are possible. Emergency officials recommend securing loose outdoor items, charging electronic devices, and preparing for potential shelter needs. Travel may be disrupted along I-80 and adjacent highways during peak impact periods.

Storm updates will continue as new data comes in. Alerts remain in effect through Monday evening, and additional advisories may be issued over the weekend.
