Morehead City, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina should prepare for a chilly night as temperatures dip to their lowest levels of the week. The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Newport/Morehead City reports frost will be possible late tonight (Tuesday) into early Wednesday morning, especially in southwestern areas including Kenansville, Jacksonville, and Wallace.
According to the NWS, temperatures are forecast to fall into the mid-30s across inland sections of Onslow and Duplin Counties, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s closer to the coast. Areas farther north and east, including New Bern and Washington, could see lows in the low to mid-40s.
Forecasters say clear skies and light winds will help conditions become ideal for frost development overnight. Gardeners and homeowners are advised to protect sensitive plants and bring pets indoors.
While temperatures are expected to rebound into the 60s by Wednesday afternoon, another cool morning could follow midweek before a gradual warm-up heading into the weekend.
