Glasgow, MT – Extremely dangerous winter weather conditions are ongoing across eastern Montana early this morning as the Blizzard Warning has been expanded to include Wibaux County, according to the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, whiteout conditions and wind gusts between 70 and 80 mph have already been observed overnight. Officials warn that very dangerous driving conditions are expected to continue through the early morning hours, with some highways closed due to blowing and drifting snow.
The Blizzard Warning is in effect through 6 a.m. Thursday, covering multiple counties across eastern Montana, including areas near Glasgow, Wolf Point, Sidney, Circle, Glendive, Scobey, Plentywood, and now Wibaux County.
Forecasters say intense winds are causing near-zero visibility, making nighttime hazards nearly impossible to see. Snow is blowing across roadways, forming deep drifts that can quickly block highways and strand motorists.
Montana 511 reports that road closures and severe travel restrictions are in place in parts of the region, and officials strongly discourage travel until conditions improve. Emergency responders note that response times may be delayed due to the severity of the storm.
Residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid all non-essential travel, and ensure pets and livestock are sheltered from the extreme conditions. Those who must travel are advised to carry emergency supplies and monitor road status closely.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later this morning as winds begin to ease, but officials caution that lingering drifting snow may continue to impact travel even after the warning expires.
