Paducah, KY – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across western Kentucky Wednesday afternoon, bringing torrential downpours, lightning, and gusty winds to parts of the region. The storms, combined with already oppressive humidity, will keep heat index values near or above 100° for much of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, storms will focus on McCracken County and surrounding areas between 1 p.m. and early evening Wednesday. Drivers could face reduced visibility and ponding on roads during heavy rain. Thursday brings another round of afternoon storms, followed by a stretch of extreme heat Friday through Sunday, with heat index values between 100° and 105°.

Residents are advised to limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and avoid flooded low-lying roads during storms. Sunday is expected to be the most dangerous day, with the combination of triple-digit heat and minimal storm relief.

Heat advisories or additional weather alerts could be issued later this week. Conditions are expected to remain hot into early next week.
