St. Louis, MO – Sunshine will dominate Thursday skies across eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois, but temperatures will climb sharply, with afternoon highs near 95°F and heat index values pushing into the upper 90s. The National Weather Service warns of prolonged exposure risks for those working or exercising outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, calm morning winds will shift northeast by afternoon, offering little relief from the heat. The hottest hours will be between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., when heat stress is most likely. Residents in St. Louis, Saint Charles, and surrounding Metro East communities should limit strenuous activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

The hot spell will intensify heading into the weekend, with highs expected to reach 97°F on Saturday and Sunday. While Thursday’s conditions are dry, a low chance of thunderstorms develops Monday into Tuesday, mainly across southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois.

With the heat building each day, outdoor workers, event organizers, and parents with kids in sports should plan for shade breaks and extra water.
