St. Louis, MO – Residents across eastern Missouri will experience another day of intense heat before cooler temperatures arrive on Friday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis has issued an excessive heat warning, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 110 degrees, particularly in areas south of Interstate 70. High temperatures today are forecasted between 90 and 96 degrees.
According to the NWS, the heat index values will begin to exceed 100 degrees late this morning, continuing through the evening hours. This heat wave has been particularly dangerous due to the combination of high temperatures and high humidity, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
Residents are advised to take precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, and checking on vulnerable individuals like the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. The excessive heat warning is in effect until 7 p.m. CDT this evening, with some relief expected by tomorrow as high temperatures are forecast to drop into the 80s.
Looking ahead, the weekend will bring a reprieve from the extreme heat, with highs in the mid-80s to lower 90s, providing some much-needed relief. By early next week, temperatures are expected to climb back into the low 90s, but with less humidity, the conditions should be more tolerable.
