Boston, Massachusetts – Drivers across Boston and much of eastern Massachusetts should prepare for deteriorating travel conditions Sunday as accumulating snow moves in late in the morning and continues through the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service office in Boston/Norton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday through 4 a.m. Monday for Suffolk County, including Boston, as well as portions of Middlesex, Essex, Worcester, and Norfolk counties. Snowfall totals between 2 and 4 inches are expected, enough to create widespread slippery road conditions.

In Boston, snow is expected to develop late Sunday morning, with roads becoming slick by early afternoon. Travel along Interstate 93, the Massachusetts Turnpike, Route 1, and surface streets could slow considerably as snow continues through the evening. Nearby cities including Cambridge, Quincy, Lowell, Framingham, Worcester, and Lawrence may also see steady snowfall, with untreated roads and bridges becoming hazardous after sunset.

Transportation officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Evening plans may be impacted as snow continues into the night, and pedestrians should use caution on sidewalks and steps.

The advisory extends into early Monday morning, and slick spots may linger for the start of the commute. Additional updates or advisories could be issued if snowfall persists longer or becomes heavier than expected.
