Salisbury, Maryland – Eastern Maryland faces a 40% chance of moderate winter storm impacts this weekend, with periods of hazardous travel possible from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Monday as a coastal storm system develops along the East Coast.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, a strong low-pressure system is forecast to rapidly intensify off the Southeast coast Saturday before tracking northward offshore of the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday. The storm will interact with a cold air mass in place across the region, increasing the potential for winter precipitation and gusty winds.

Snow probabilities near 40% extend across Maryland’s Eastern Shore, including communities along U.S. 50, U.S. 113, and Route 404. Areas closer to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic coastline may see periods of rain or a rain-snow mix, while inland portions of the Eastern Shore have a greater chance of seeing accumulating snow depending on the storm’s exact track and temperature profiles.

The most likely window for travel impacts appears to be late Saturday into Sunday, when precipitation coverage and wind speeds are expected to peak. Gusty winds could reduce visibility in open areas and on elevated roadways, potentially leading to delays or hazardous driving conditions.

Forecasters note that uncertainty remains regarding snowfall totals, precipitation type, and the storm’s precise path. Coastal and bay-side areas could also experience rough marine conditions and elevated water levels if strong winds coincide with high tides.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official weather updates and prepare for changing travel conditions. Weekend commuters, service workers, and students across the Eastern Shore should allow extra time or adjust plans if the storm intensifies.
