Pikeville, KY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for portions of eastern Kentucky through 10 a.m. Thursday, with a second advisory issued for Thursday night through 10 a.m. Friday, as two rounds of light snow are expected to create slippery road conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the first system will taper off Thursday morning with up to 1 inch of accumulation, mainly in higher elevations. A second wave of snow arrives Thursday evening, bringing an additional 1 to 3 inches across counties including Floyd, Pike, Morgan, Bath, Rowan, and Magoffin.
The heaviest snow is expected Thursday night into early Friday, with higher totals on ridges and mountain passes, especially near Big Black Mountain, where localized amounts of 2–4 inches are possible.
Forecasters warn that both the Thursday morning and Friday morning commutes could be impacted by slick and snow-covered roads. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and check goky.ky.gov for real-time road conditions.
Snow showers should end by midday Friday, with temperatures remaining below freezing into the weekend.
