Jackson, KY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of eastern and southeastern Kentucky, warning of accumulating snow and hazardous travel conditions from 7 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday.

Snowfall totals are expected to range from 1 to 2 inches in southern counties such as London, Somerset, and Manchester, to 2 to 4 inches further north across Morehead, Pikeville, and Prestonsburg. The highest amounts are forecast north of the Mountain Parkway and above 2,500 feet in Harlan County.

According to the NWS, slippery roads and reduced visibility will create difficult travel overnight, with the most significant impacts expected during the Friday morning commute. Drivers should allow extra time, reduce speed, and use caution, especially on bridges and secondary roads.

Officials urge residents to monitor local conditions and check the latest road updates at goky.ky.gov before traveling.

Snow will taper off by mid-morning Friday, but patchy ice may persist into the afternoon as temperatures remain near freezing.
