JACKSON, Ky. – A weak cold front will move through Kentucky tonight, followed by a stronger system Friday that could bring gusty showers and a few stronger storms to parts of eastern Kentucky.

According to the National Weather Service Jackson, tonight’s front will deliver cooler, breezy air but little rainfall. Attention then turns to Friday, when increasing instability and strengthening winds could trigger scattered thunderstorms by afternoon. While widespread severe weather is not expected, forecasters have placed eastern Kentucky under a Level 1 (Marginal) severe risk, mainly for damaging wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph.

The greatest potential for stronger storms lies west of I-75 and south toward the Bluegrass Parkway, where a few brief downpours or lightning strikes could accompany the front. Rain chances will climb above 80 percent Friday afternoon before tapering late in the evening as cooler air sweeps in.

Residents should secure outdoor items, remain alert for changing conditions, and monitor local warnings Friday. The system will clear by Saturday, leaving behind drier and cooler air for the weekend, with lows dipping into the 30s and 40s.
