Eastern Kentucky, KY – A tornado watch in Eastern Kentucky has been canceled early after the severe threat began to subside on Saturday evening. Originally set to last until 11:00 p.m., the watch expired about 90 minutes ahead of time, according to the National Weather Service. However, a flood watch remains in effect for the entire region overnight into Sunday.
The tornado watch, which included cities such as London, Somerset, and Monticello, was issued due to the possibility of isolated tornadoes, hail, and high wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. The threat of severe weather has diminished, but authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and stay weather-aware.
The flood watch continues as heavy rainfall is expected to cause localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Officials are advising drivers to be extra cautious on the roads and to avoid traveling through flooded areas. The flood watch is expected to remain active until Sunday morning.
With a population of nearly 280,000 across the affected areas, local hospitals and emergency services remain on high alert as the situation develops.
