Jackson, KY – Eastern Kentucky wakes to a calm and chilly start this Saturday, but the weather will shift quickly over the next 48 hours as a cold front pushes across the region late Sunday into early Monday, possibly bringing light snow accumulations before temperatures rebound midweek.
The National Weather Service in Jackson reports that sunshine will break through the clouds today, with highs rising into the mid-40s, offering a pleasant break after several gray mornings. Sunday will start mild, with temperatures climbing toward 50°F, but that’s when the change begins.
By Sunday morning, a cold front slides south through Kentucky, dropping highs into the 30s and setting the stage for a mix of rain and snow by late night. Light snow is most likely early Monday, especially along higher ridges and valleys near Hazard, Pikeville, and Morehead, where a dusting to a half inch could occur before tapering off midmorning.
Temperatures Monday afternoon stay in the upper 30s, then dip into the 20s overnight, leading to a refreeze risk on untreated roads and driveways.
