Jackson, Kentucky – Rain and snow are gradually winding down across eastern Kentucky early Saturday, bringing improving conditions for many areas while higher elevations continue to deal with slick spots through the morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, precipitation is tapering off from west to east through the early morning hours. Most locations are expected to see less than a half inch of snow accumulation, with snowfall mainly limited to grassy and elevated surfaces. Roads in lower elevations should continue to improve as temperatures hover near freezing.
The main concern remains across higher terrain above 2,500 feet, where snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are possible before precipitation fully ends. These areas, including parts of Harlan and Letcher counties and ridgeline communities along Black Mountain, could experience slippery road conditions, especially on untreated mountain roads.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 9 a.m. this morning for portions of southeastern Kentucky. Travel impacts should be limited but drivers are urged to use caution on bridges, shaded roadways, and higher elevation routes where snow may linger longer.
As precipitation ends, conditions are expected to steadily improve through the late morning. While no additional snow is anticipated today, cold temperatures may allow isolated slick spots to persist in elevated areas. Residents should continue monitoring updates in case advisories are adjusted before fully expiring.
