Jackson, KY – Morning commuters across eastern Kentucky are facing dense fog with visibility dropping below a quarter mile in many locations, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson.
A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Eastern Time for much of the region, including areas along the Mountain Parkway, Highway 80, and U.S. 23 corridors. The fog developed overnight under calm winds and clear skies, and it is expected to lift by mid-morning as temperatures warm.
“Visibilities will be less than ¼ mile in many areas,” the NWS said, warning that sudden drops in visibility may occur while driving through valleys or near bodies of water.
Drivers are urged to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and leave extra distance between vehicles. Motorists should also allow additional travel time this morning as the thick fog may impact commute routes and school bus operations.
The fog will dissipate by late morning, giving way to a mild, partly sunny afternoon with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.
