Jackson, Kentucky – Near-record warmth and widespread gusty winds are expected across eastern Kentucky today as a strong cold front approaches the region, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Jackson said southerly wind gusts between 25 and 40 mph are likely across eastern Kentucky today and tonight, with locally stronger gusts exceeding 40 mph possible. Forecasters noted that a narrow line of showers along the cold front could briefly enhance wind gusts as it moves through.

Temperatures are expected to remain unusually warm ahead of the front, contributing to the gusty conditions. The Weather Service warned that the strength of the winds could cause localized impacts, especially where loose outdoor items are not secured.

Officials advised residents to secure outdoor furniture, holiday decorations, and other loose objects before the front arrives. Power disruptions are not explicitly forecast, but strong gusts may lead to isolated issues.

After the cold front passes overnight, conditions are expected to turn much colder, with temperatures struggling to remain above freezing on Tuesday, according to the forecast graphic shared by the Weather Service.

For commuters, students, and outdoor workers across eastern Kentucky, the gusty winds may impact travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Additional updates will be issued by the National Weather Service as the cold front moves through the region.
