Jackson, KY – Rain showers across eastern Kentucky will transition to snow this afternoon, bringing slick conditions to local roads, including KY-15. Snow accumulation is expected to reach 1 to 3 inches in higher elevations near the Kentucky-Virginia border, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The heaviest snowfall is anticipated between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., with grassy areas and elevated surfaces most affected. Travelers are urged to use caution during evening commutes as road conditions could deteriorate rapidly. Wind gusts up to 15 mph may reduce visibility, particularly in mountainous regions.

According to NWS, temperatures will fall from a high near 39 degrees by midday to below freezing overnight. This drop may lead to icy spots on bridges and shaded areas. A hazardous weather outlook remains in effect for portions of eastern Kentucky, with light snow accumulations continuing into Saturday morning.

The weekend forecast shows isolated snow showers early Saturday, clearing to partly sunny skies with highs near 35. Sunday will be mostly clear and cold, with a high near 37. Temperatures will warm slightly Monday, reaching 51 under sunny skies, before a chance of rain returns Tuesday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and allow extra travel time. Spotter activation is not expected, but motorists should report hazardous conditions to local authorities.
