Jackson, KY – A Flood Watch is in effect for parts of eastern, south-central, and southeastern Kentucky from late Friday night through Sunday morning as heavy rainfall threatens to cause flash flooding across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will bring periods of heavy rain, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The affected counties include Fleming, Montgomery, Bath, Rowan, Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Pulaski, Laurel, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Wolfe, Lee, Owsley, and Clay.

Excessive runoff may lead to rising water levels in rivers, creeks, and urban drainage systems. Debris from previous flood events could clog storm drains and ditches, exacerbating potential flooding. Despite recent dry conditions, officials warn that heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding in certain areas.

Residents in flood-prone locations should stay alert and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen. Authorities advise monitoring weather updates and heeding potential Flood Warnings if issued. Motorists are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, as water levels may rise quickly.
