JACKSON, Ky. – A cold front sweeping through eastern Kentucky Saturday is bringing scattered showers and the chance of isolated thunderstorms, making for a wet and unsettled start to the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, embedded thunder is possible throughout the day as the system moves across the region. Rain chances remain highest in the afternoon and evening before conditions begin to improve overnight.

By Sunday, skies turn clear with highs in the low 70s and cooler nighttime lows dipping into the 40s, a noticeable change from recent humid afternoons. Drivers across highways including the Mountain Parkway and U.S. 23 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick conditions during heavier downpours Saturday, but travel impacts ease by Sunday.

The cool, dry pattern will hold into Monday before a warming trend returns midweek. Highs climb back into the upper 70s to near 80 by Tuesday and Wednesday with abundant sunshine, offering a much calmer stretch of weather across eastern Kentucky.

Residents are encouraged to avoid outdoor plans during Saturday’s storms and keep an eye on rapidly changing conditions. Additional updates may be issued if thunderstorms intensify.
