Jackson, KY – A winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall and icy conditions to eastern Kentucky, with a warning in place until 11 p.m. Tuesday. Several counties, including Estill, Johnson, Magoffin, and Lee, could see between 2 to 7 inches of snow, with a light glaze of ice possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, snowfall rates could reach up to 1 inch per hour at times, particularly overnight into midday Tuesday. This will create hazardous road conditions, affecting both morning and evening commutes.

The impacted area includes counties such as Fleming, Montgomery, Rowan, and Powell, where higher snowfall totals are expected. Freezing rain could also lead to slick roads and power outages.

Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for possible delays. If travel is necessary, keeping an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water is advised.
