Jackson, KY – Gusty southwest winds are expected to impact eastern Kentucky through Wednesday evening, with peak gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service Jackson.

Meteorologists say a passing weather system will bring strong southwest to west winds through the afternoon, with the highest gusts expected in open areas and along higher elevations. Winds are forecast to peak between 4 a.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, before gradually easing overnight.

“These gusts could cause difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles and blow around unsecured outdoor objects,” the NWS said in a morning briefing. “Lawn decorations, trash cans, and other lightweight items may be displaced.”

Increased wave activity on area lakes is also possible, and isolated power interruptions could occur where stronger gusts reach or exceed 40 mph. The system will move east by late evening, allowing calmer conditions to return Thursday.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor belongings, use caution on elevated roadways, and check local forecasts for updates throughout the day. Those traveling along I-75, the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway, or KY-15 should be prepared for occasional strong crosswinds, especially in open or elevated areas.
