Quad Cities, IA/IL – Dangerous heat and a growing flood threat are set to impact the Quad Cities region from Friday afternoon through Saturday night, with triple-digit heat indexes, severe thunderstorms, and rapid rises on area rivers putting both drivers and residents on alert.

According to the National Weather Service, heat indexes will soar between 100 and 108 degrees Friday, especially along and south of Highway 30. A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM Friday for Scott, Muscatine, Rock Island, and Clinton counties. By late Friday night, storms develop, bringing heavy rain, lightning, and the risk of flash flooding—especially for those living near the Wapsipinicon, Iowa, and Cedar rivers, where Flood Warnings are in place until late Saturday.

Those in Davenport, Moline, Bettendorf, and Rock Island should avoid non-essential travel during peak heat and after dark Friday and Saturday, when flooded roads will be harder to spot. Power outages and waterlogged basements are likely in low-lying neighborhoods. Officials urge residents to stay indoors, drink fluids, check on elderly neighbors, and never drive across water-covered roads. Businesses along riverbanks, especially near De Witt and Columbus Junction, should prepare for potential closures or flood impacts as river levels continue to rise.

The worst heat will ease by late Friday, but rounds of storms are expected to continue through Saturday night, with localized rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches possible and more advisories likely. Stay tuned for updates as hazards could continue into early next week.
