Davenport, IA – A rapid warmup and gusty winds are raising fire concerns today, but a more dangerous shift arrives by Monday night as strong to severe storms threaten the Quad Cities region into Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, temperatures will climb into the mid-60s to near 70 degrees today with south winds between 15 and 25 mph, creating elevated fire weather conditions. That warmth intensifies Monday, with highs reaching 76 to 84 degrees and continued gusty winds drying out vegetation.
Storm chances begin late Monday night, when scattered thunderstorms may develop, a few of which could become severe. The threat increases Tuesday, with 50 to 70 percent chances of storms across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Davenport, Moline, and Rock Island.
The strongest storms Tuesday afternoon and evening could produce damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain, impacting travel along I-74, I-80, and U.S. 61. Residents should prepare now by securing loose items and staying alert for warnings.
Fire risk remains elevated through Monday before storms arrive, and additional advisories are likely as the severe weather threat becomes clearer.
