Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois are bracing for extreme heat as a heat advisory remains in effect area-wide through Thursday, with heat indices expected to reach up to 105 degrees in cities like the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, and Peoria.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the highest risk comes during the afternoon hours when peak heat indices near 100–105 degrees could make outdoor activities dangerous. The advisory covers all major metro areas, including Iowa City, Dubuque, Sterling, and Macomb, where excessive heat can impact road crews, outdoor workers, and anyone sensitive to high temperatures.

Parents and caregivers are urged to check on children, the elderly, and those with medical conditions, and limit time spent outdoors. Hydration is critical, and cooling centers may be available in some communities. With air conditioning demand surging, local utilities are preparing for possible strain on the grid.

Thunderstorms moving in Thursday afternoon could lower temperatures and lead to adjustments in the advisory, but until then, warnings remain in effect. Further alerts or updates may be issued if conditions change.
