Quad Cities, Iowa – Residents in eastern Iowa are preparing for a night of severe thunderstorms followed by a scorching heatwave. The National Weather Service has issued a marginal risk warning for isolated severe thunderstorms tonight, primarily expected between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. These storms could bring strong wind gusts, creating hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the highest chances for severe weather are northwest of the Quad Cities, where storm motion is predicted to be swift. Residents are advised to have multiple ways to receive warnings, particularly during the overnight hours.

Following the storms, a heatwave is set to impact the region starting Sunday and lasting through the middle of next week. Temperatures are expected to reach the lower to mid-90s, with heat indices approaching 100 degrees. The hottest days are anticipated to be Sunday and Monday.

Health officials recommend staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat, and being vigilant for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, and weakness, while heat stroke can cause confusion, dizziness, and unconsciousness, necessitating immediate medical attention.

Rain chances mid-week may bring some relief to the intense heat, but residents are urged to remain cautious and prepared for fluctuating weather conditions.
