Davenport, Iowa – Dense fog and strong storms could slow travel across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois as the first full day of fall begins. Motorists along Highway 20 should plan for reduced visibility this morning, while evening commuters face the greater risk of hail and damaging winds.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, patchy dense fog will linger south of the Highway 20 corridor early Monday before thunderstorms increase in coverage tonight into Tuesday morning. The Storm Prediction Center places the region under a Marginal Risk, meaning isolated severe storms could develop, especially north of a line from Millersburg, Iowa, to Freeport, Illinois.

Travelers should remain alert for sudden low visibility in rural stretches and be prepared for storms to impact evening commutes Tuesday. Gusty winds and hail remain the main hazards. Spotters may be activated, and the weather service encourages residents to report rainfall exceeding an inch.

Conditions settle slightly midweek, though scattered showers remain possible through Wednesday. Sunshine returns Thursday, offering a brief break before another round of fall-like air moves in. Temperatures will hold near seasonal norms, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s early in the week before slipping toward the low 70s.

The first hints of cooler fall weather may arrive this weekend, with Saturday and Sunday trending sunny and breezy, highs near 80.
