QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Illinois – By Monday afternoon, eastern Iowa residents are still dealing with the effects of a weekend soaking that dropped more than 6 inches of rain in some communities. The National Weather Service Quad Cities office reports New Era recorded the highest total at 6.25 inches over the past two days, with similar amounts just south-southwest of Dubuque at 6.10 inches.
According to the agency, the most intense rainfall targeted eastern Muscatine, eastern Cedar, and southern Dubuque counties, with widespread 3–5 inch totals. Sweetland Center received 5 inches, Walcott 4.30 inches, and Cedar Rapids 4.10 inches. Other locations seeing notable totals included Dubuque (4.00 inches), Galena (4.10 inches), and Iowa City (2.75 inches).
Flash flooding Sunday morning left some low-lying roads underwater, especially in Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, and northwest Scott County. While most floodwaters have receded by Monday afternoon, a few rural routes may remain closed as crews assess damage.
The rainfall was measured over a 48-hour window ending at 7 a.m. Monday, covering both Saturday and Sunday’s downpours. More rain is not expected today, giving eastern Iowa a chance to dry out before the next system later this week.
