Cedar Rapids, IA – The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Wind Advisory in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday for much of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, with gusts expected to reach up to 45 miles per hour.

According to the NWS, west winds between 20 and 30 mph will persist through the evening across counties including Benton, Jones, Linn, Buchanan, and Delaware in Iowa, and Dubuque, Jackson, Clinton, Scott, Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll, Whiteside, Rock Island, Henry, Bureau, and Putnam in Illinois.

Forecasters warn that gusty winds may knock down tree limbs, scatter unsecured outdoor items, and cause isolated power outages. The strongest gusts are expected during the afternoon and early evening, tapering off overnight as the front passes.

Drivers—especially those operating high-profile vehicles such as trucks or vans—are urged to use extra caution on open roadways and bridges where crosswinds will be strongest.

Weather officials also note that residents should secure outdoor decorations, trash bins, and patio furniture ahead of the gusts to prevent damage or debris.

Winds are expected to ease after midnight, with calmer conditions returning Wednesday morning.
