DeWitt, Iowa – A Flood Watch is now in effect for parts of eastern Iowa as the Wapsipinicon River nears flood stage, threatening to spill into rural roads and low-lying areas from Thursday morning through late Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the river measured 10.4 feet Tuesday night and is forecast to reach the 11-foot flood stage by Thursday morning. Once the river rises above that level, water could cover County Road E63 north of Toronto and affect some of the lowest roads in Buena Vista.

Clinton and Scott Counties are expected to see the greatest impact, with travel disruptions possible on rural roads near the river. Local officials urge drivers to avoid driving through water-covered roadways and to plan alternate routes ahead of the weekend.

Residents near the river should monitor conditions closely, secure belongings on lower levels, and be ready to act quickly if a Flood Warning is issued.

The Flood Watch remains in place until late Saturday, with additional updates expected Wednesday evening.
