Quad Cities, IA/IL – Severe thunderstorms and extreme heat are expected to impact eastern Iowa this afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has issued a slight risk for severe weather, warning residents of possible damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain. There is also potential for isolated tornadoes, though the risk remains uncertain.

According to the National Weather Service, cloud cover could affect the severity of storms. If clouds persist into the morning, the likelihood of severe weather decreases. However, additional thunderstorms are anticipated overnight, with strong winds and large hail as the primary threats. Residents are advised to have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially if asleep during the night.

The heat index is expected to soar into the upper 90s, reaching up to 100 degrees in some areas. Cities like Cedar Rapids, Davenport, and Dubuque are forecasted to experience the highest heat indices. The National Weather Service urges residents to take precautions against the heat, including staying hydrated, wearing light-colored clothing, and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
