Davenport, Iowa – Storms capable of producing damaging winds and localized flooding are expected to move into eastern Iowa late Thursday afternoon, with the highest impact likely along and north of Highway 30.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, storms will strengthen and organize as they progress eastward into the evening hours, peaking in intensity between late afternoon and mid-evening. While isolated storms may pop up earlier in the day—especially north of Highway 30—more widespread activity is expected later, bringing threats of brief heavy rain and gusty winds.
Areas from Waterloo to Dubuque and Cedar Rapids to Davenport are in the main storm corridor, where locally heavy rainfall and wind gusts near 35 mph could cause brief travel hazards and isolated power outages. Flash flooding is a concern in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive warnings and to know where their safe shelter is located. Campers and those outdoors should stay weather aware and be ready to act quickly.
Storms are expected to weaken overnight, but additional alerts could be issued if conditions shift.
