Davenport, Iowa – Drivers across eastern Iowa and western Illinois should brace for shifting visibility through 9 a.m. Friday, as pockets of dense fog move through the region during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, fog has developed across multiple counties, with some areas seeing visibility drop to one-quarter mile or less. The fog is expected to be patchy and transient, meaning drivers may encounter sudden changes in visibility over short distances.
The advisory area spans from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City and Davenport in Iowa, extending east into Rock Island, Galesburg, and Freeport in Illinois. Key travel routes, including I-80, U.S. 61, and portions of Highway 218, may be impacted.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time during their morning drive. If fog thickens and becomes more widespread, a Dense Fog Advisory could be issued.
The fog threat will diminish by mid-morning, with improving conditions expected after 9 a.m.
