Davenport, Iowa – Thunderstorms moving into eastern Iowa and western Illinois could turn severe this evening, with damaging winds, large hail, and a chance of isolated tornadoes in areas south of Highway 34, including Burlington and Macomb.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the greatest risk for severe storms will occur between 3 and 9 p.m. Monday. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail larger than a quarter are possible across much of the region, with the highest threat concentrated in the far southern counties.

Communities like Peoria, Burlington, and Macomb are under a Level 2 (Slight) Risk, while the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City fall under a Level 1 (Marginal) Risk. The storm system is tracking northeast, with strong cells expected to develop along and south of Highway 34.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially as storms approach during the late commute. Emergency managers recommend going indoors immediately when thunder is heard and staying away from windows during high wind periods.

Storms are expected to exit the area by late evening, but additional updates or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
