Davenport, Iowa – Residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois should brace for a surge of dangerous heat Friday as a heat advisory takes effect from 1 to 7 p.m., with heat index values climbing as high as 105 degrees. With humidity on the rise, the combination of hot temperatures and oppressive dew points will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or spending extended time outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the advisory covers major cities including Davenport, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Moline, and Rock Island, as well as smaller communities throughout the region. Health officials urge everyone to stay hydrated, seek air conditioning, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. Vulnerable groups—such as the elderly, young children, and those without access to cooling—should be checked on frequently.

Road crews, outdoor workers, and anyone with outdoor plans Friday afternoon should take extra breaks, wear light clothing, and watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including dizziness or nausea. Those without reliable cooling are encouraged to seek local cooling centers or public buildings.

The worst of the heat is expected to subside by Friday evening, but more advisories could follow if conditions persist into the weekend. Stay tuned for updates and remain cautious as summer temperatures peak.
