Davenport, Iowa – Wind gusts up to 45 mph will sweep across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois starting at 6 a.m. Friday, creating difficult driving conditions and pockets of reduced visibility during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through noon for Scott, Clinton and Jackson counties in Iowa and Rock Island, Whiteside, Carroll, Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Henry, Mercer, Bureau and Putnam counties in Illinois. McDonough and Warren counties remain under advisory until 9 a.m. West to northwest winds of 25 to 30 mph will combine with periods of falling snow, briefly reducing visibility to around one mile or less.
High-profile vehicles traveling along Interstate 80 near Davenport, Interstate 74 through Moline and U.S. 20 near Freeport and Galena could encounter strong crosswinds. Unsecured outdoor objects may be blown around, and tree limbs could snap, leading to isolated power outages.
Drivers should reduce speed, keep both hands on the wheel and allow extra stopping distance. Secure loose outdoor items before winds peak midmorning.
Gusts will gradually diminish by early afternoon, but breezy conditions may linger into the day. Additional updates will follow if winds strengthen further.
