Pocatello, ID – The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of eastern and southeastern Idaho, warning of heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions from Thursday afternoon through late Friday night.
Forecasters expect 8 to 14 inches of snow in mountain areas and 4 to 8 inches in valleys, with gusty winds up to 35 mph potentially creating blowing and drifting snow. Areas under the watch include the Bear River Range, Caribou Range, Teton Valley, Island Park, Marsh Highlands, and Bear Lake Valley.
Snow will begin Thursday afternoon and intensify overnight into Friday, likely impacting both the Friday morning and evening commutes. Mountain passes such as Emigration Summit, Teton Pass, and Highway 20 near Island Park could become treacherous or impassable at times.
The National Weather Service advises residents to prepare for winter travel disruptions and check for updated forecasts and road conditions before heading out.
