Cheyenne County, Colorado – Blowing snow and reduced visibility are expected to create hazardous travel conditions across Cheyenne County during the day on Friday, Jan. 9, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory.
According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, the advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST Friday, Jan. 9, as snow combines with strong winds across the area. Winds are forecast to gust up to 45 mph, causing drifting snow and visibility reductions to less than one mile at times.
Snow accumulations are expected to average around 2 inches, though localized areas could see 3 to 5 inches, particularly where blowing and drifting snow becomes more pronounced. The advisory includes Cheyenne County, with impacts expected in and around Cheyenne Wells and Arapahoe.
Officials warn that road conditions may become slick and hazardous, especially during the Friday morning and evening commutes, Jan. 9. Gusty winds may also bring down tree branches and create additional travel hazards on open roadways.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of reduced visibility. The National Weather Service advises motorists not to rely on GPS for alternate routes and to obey road closures and barricades.
For the latest road conditions in Colorado and surrounding states, travelers are encouraged to call 511 before heading out.
