Dodge City, Kan. – Eastern Colorado and western Kansas are under a severe thunderstorm watch Tuesday evening, with dangerous storms expected between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. CDT. Forecasters warn of wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail reaching the size of tennis balls.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the watch covers 14 counties in western Kansas, including Sherman, Scott, Finney, and Wichita counties, along with parts of eastern Colorado such as Yuma, Cheyenne, and Prowers. Early storms have already fired near the Colorado border, with conditions set to intensify through sunset.

Communities at risk include Garden City, Goodland, Colby, Ulysses, Lamar, and Scott City. Interstate 70 and U.S. 50 may see rapid deterioration in travel conditions, with blowing debris, low visibility, and frequent lightning. Emergency officials advise residents to stay indoors during storms, secure loose outdoor items, and charge devices in case of power outages.

Storm activity is expected to weaken late Tuesday night, though forecasters note more storm chances could develop later this week.
