Denver, CO – Northeast Colorado faces a dual weather threat Monday evening as severe thunderstorms and elevated fire danger converge on the region. Winds up to 70 mph and large hail could hammer areas from Sterling to Akron by sunset, while hot, dry conditions spark critical fire concerns across the Front Range.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, spotter activation may be needed from 5 to 9 p.m. as isolated storms develop along the northeast plains. Winds aloft and dry surface air will support rapid intensification, especially east of I-76. Simultaneously, elevated fire weather is expected to peak in the foothills and valleys as gusts combine with single-digit humidity and record-breaking heat.

Tuesday: Denver will see hazy skies early, then mostly sunny with a high of 96°F. South winds shift east by afternoon.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, hotter still, reaching 96°F again. Gusts may approach 25 mph.
Thursday: Dry, sunny, and dangerously hot — 99°F possible.
Friday: The heat holds, with a forecast high of 98°F.
Saturday: Isolated storms return late in the day; highs near 87°F.

Look for critical fire weather warnings to expand midweek as dry air lingers. Residents across northeast Colorado should avoid open burning, reduce power tool use outdoors, and secure loose outdoor items ahead of high winds.
