Denver, CO – Colorado residents should prepare for severe thunderstorms today, with large hail and gusty winds expected across the eastern plains.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Denver warns that thunderstorms will develop this afternoon, likely intensifying as they move eastward. These storms could produce large hail and damaging winds, particularly in the far eastern counties. The NWS advises residents to stay informed as conditions could deteriorate quickly.
According to the NWS, heavy rainfall is possible, leading to flash flooding, especially in burn areas. Tornadoes are less likely but still a potential threat. The most severe storms are forecast to occur between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., so residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts during this time.
Temperatures will reach 86°F in Denver today, with thunderstorms most likely in the late afternoon. After the storms, conditions will clear, leading to sunny skies and highs near 90°F on Friday and Saturday. Cooler temperatures are expected early next week, providing some relief after the severe weather.
